Pasco Libraries Awarded State Grant for America 250 Book Collection

PASCO COUNTY, FL — Pasco County Libraries is adding more than 120 new titles to its shelves this year, thanks to a state grant tied to the nation's upcoming 250th anniversary.
The Grant
Pasco County Libraries received a $6,000 grant from Florida Humanities to purchase the new books across nine library branches countywide. The funding comes through Florida Humanities' America 250 Book Collection Grants initiative, a statewide effort distributing more than $78,000 to 121 libraries and library systems across 28 Florida counties — supporting the purchase of nearly 4,000 books total in communities across the state.
What's Included
Beyond the books themselves, participating libraries will also receive materials to build America 250-themed displays, along with curated reading lists for children, young adults, and adults — designed to spark community conversations around the country's semiquincentennial.
Why It Matters
"Public libraries are vital spaces for democracy in our nation, providing community members of all ages with access to a wealth of knowledge," said Patricia Putman, associate director of Florida Humanities.
Two Pinellas County libraries were also recognized in the same funding round: East Lake Community Library received $2,392, and Palm Harbor Library received $1,400.
