101-Year-Old Pasco County WWII Veteran Returns to Newly Renovated Home

HUDSON, FL — A Pasco County World War II veteran is back in his home this week, thanks to a coordinated community effort to repair damage left behind by the 2024 hurricanes.

The Damage 

Fred "Fritz" Kojzar's Hudson home took on several inches of water during the storms. The wet flooring was removed soon after, but the home was left with uneven, unfinished floors for an extended period.

Pasco County WWII Veteran - Who Made It Happen

Rebuilding Together Greater Florida led the renovation effort, working alongside USAA, the American Red Cross, Community Foundation Tampa Bay, and Volunteer Florida to fund and complete the repairs. Beyond fixing the flooring, the team also installed additional safety features suited to Kojzar's needs.

A Life Worth Honoring 

At 101 years old, Kojzar served in the Navy during World War II. Among his keepsakes is a postcard dated July 15, 1943, written to his father from a naval hospital while recovering from bronchitis pneumonia: a small, personal artifact from a much larger chapter of American history.

Despite the setback, Kojzar's spirit never wavered. "If I just sit down and do nothing, it's not me," he said.
