A New Walmart Is Coming to SR-56 and Morris Bridge Road — And It's Bringing a Four-Lane Road Upgrade With It

WESLEY CHAPEL, FL — Wesley Chapel's east side is getting a major retail anchor — and the road to get there is getting a serious upgrade at the same time. A new Walmart Supercenter is confirmed for the southwest corner of State Road 56 and Morris Bridge Road, with construction expected to begin later this year. And in a move that will benefit the entire corridor, the Walmart developer is also funding a significant road widening project as part of the deal.

The project sits within the River Landing Master Planned Unit Development, adjacent to the Two Rivers community — one of the fastest-growing master-planned developments in all of Pasco County. Early rumors had suggested the site might become a Lowe's Home Improvement store, but those plans have since been replaced — and all signs now point clearly to Walmart.

The Road Widening Deal

This is the detail that changes the whole story. On April 21, 2026, the Pasco County Board of County Commissioners approved a development agreement tied to the Walmart project that includes major roadway improvements along Morris

Bridge Road:

  • Morris Bridge Road widened from two lanes to four lanes between Colston Ave./Oldwoods Ave. and SR-56

  • Construction of a new four-lane roundabout at the main southern development entrance

  • The Walmart developer funds the design and construction of all improvements

  • Pasco County reimburses approximately $4.7 million due to the regional nature of the upgrades

For residents who have been stuck in traffic on Morris Bridge Road — which has been handling rapidly increasing volumes as Two Rivers and surrounding communities continue to grow — this is genuinely significant news.

Who It Serves

The new Walmart is positioned to serve thousands of households in communities that currently have to drive several miles west for groceries and everyday essentials:

  • Two Rivers — the master-planned community directly across Morris Bridge Road

  • Union Park and Winding Ridge

  • Epperson and Watergrass communities

  • Residents along the broader eastern SR-56 corridor

What's Coming to the Store

The new location will offer Walmart's full Supercenter format — groceries, household goods, pharmacy services, and general merchandise all under one roof. Final design plans, including exact store size and layout, have not yet been released.

What Else Is Coming to the Corridor

Across Morris Bridge Road from the Walmart site, developer Stiles has purchased land for additional retail development — signaling that the SR-56 and Morris Bridge Road intersection is shaping up to become a significant east-side retail hub in the years ahead.

When Does It Open?

No official opening date has been announced. Construction is expected to begin later in 2026, with more details on timeline and hiring plans to follow as permitting progresses.
