Lowe's and Walmart Are Both Coming to SR-52 in San Antonio — And They're Bringing a Whole Retail District With Them

PASCO COUNTY, FL — North Pasco County is about to get one of the most significant retail additions in its history. Wesley Chapel Community Website has independently confirmed both a Lowe's Home Improvement and a Walmart Supercenter are coming to the south side of State Road 52 just east of I-75, at the interchange that funnels most of San Antonio's traffic.
The two anchor stores are part of the Abbey Crossings development — a sprawling mixed-use project at SR-52 and McKendree Road that has been years in the making and is now moving toward reality. For residents of San Antonio, St. Leo, and northern Wesley Chapel who currently have to drive south to SR-54 or SR-56 for major retail, this changes everything.
What's Coming
Lowe's Home Improvement — full-size store with lumber, appliances, garden center, and contractor services
Walmart Supercenter — full grocery, pharmacy, household goods, and general merchandise
Outparcel leases or letters of intent signed with Chase Bank, Panera, Chipotle, Panda Express, Dunkin', McDonald's, Del Taco, and Wawa — a complete daily-needs retail cluster at one interchange
The Infrastructure Is Moving
The county secured infrastructure financing for the Abbey Crossings roadwork in 2025 — the step that has to come before vertical construction on the pads. That financing milestone is what separates this from previous proposals that stalled — the money to build the roads serving the development is now in place.
What This Means for the Area
A home improvement run from San Antonio currently means getting on the highway or driving east. A Lowe's at the SR-52 interchange puts lumber, appliances, and a garden center inside a five-minute drive for most of the city. The same logic applies to the Walmart — residents of Mirada, Abbey Crossings, and surrounding communities will gain a full superstore without fighting the traffic on SR-54 and SR-56.
For Wesley Chapel residents in Epperson, Watergrass, and along the Curley Road corridor, this adds a viable northern option for big-box shopping and hardware runs — a practical benefit that will show up in daily life as soon as construction begins.
The Timeline
Site plans can still shift as projects move through permitting, and no construction start date has been officially announced. Developer materials have listed retail deliveries anticipated across 2026 — but projects of this scale routinely adjust. Watch for construction permit activity at SR-52 and McKendree Road as the clearest real-time indicator of progress.
