Carrollwood Players Theatre Brings the 70s-Infused Broadway Comedy Disaster! The Musical to the Tampa Bay Stage

If you're looking for a lighthearted and entertaining outing close to Wesley Chapel, Carrollwood Players Theatre is staging Disaster! The Musical — a laugh-filled Broadway parody packed with iconic 1970s hit songs and over-the-top chaos. A matinee performance is scheduled for Friday, May 15, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., with tickets priced between $27 and $36.

The theatre is located at 4333 Gunn Highway in Tampa, making it a convenient drive for residents throughout the Wesley Chapel, Lutz, and New Tampa areas.

What's the Show About?

Written by Seth Rudetsky and Jack Plotnick, Disaster! The Musical is a comedic homage to the classic disaster films of the 1970s, featuring earthquakes, tidal waves, and infernos as the backdrop for a wildly entertaining story.

The plot unfolds in 1979, when New York's most colorful personalities gather for the grand opening of a floating casino and discotheque. The guest list includes a faded disco star, a nightclub singer with her twin children, a disaster expert, a journalist, a gambling-addicted nun, and an assortment of other memorable characters. What starts as a glamorous evening rapidly spirals into full-scale catastrophe.

Woven throughout the story are dozens of recognizable 1970s hit songs, making the show equal parts nostalgia and comedy in what is described as a laugh-a-minute, toe-tapping musical.
