PASCO COUNTY / WESLEY CHAPEL, FL — Election season is officially underway in Pasco County, and 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most consequential voting years in the region's recent history. The 2026 Midterm Election season begins with Primary elections on Tuesday, August 18, and Floridians will be voting for a new Governor, a U.S. Senator, U.S.
Representatives, plus State Attorney General, Chief Financial Officer, Commissioner of Agriculture, State Senators, State Representatives, and in Pasco specifically — a new State Attorney and Public Defender.
The Big Races to Watch
Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco has announced he will resign in November to run in the special election for the Florida Senate District 21 seat being vacated by retiring Florida Sen. Ed Hooper. Nocco, who has been Pasco's Sheriff since 2011, is running as a Republican. His departure creates a significant vacancy that will be filled by a governor's appointment — a process Wesley Chapel residents should be paying close attention to.
On the county commission level, District 2 — which covers a significant portion of the Wesley Chapel area — has both a Democratic and Republican candidate already filed. Democrat Stephanie C. Vazquez of Wesley Chapel is challenging Republican incumbent Seth Weightman for the four-year seat.
