ST. PETERSBURG, FL — One of Tampa Bay's most iconic cultural landmarks is about to get a lot bigger. The Salvador Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg has announced a $65 million expansion project that will add 35,000 square feet of new space to its waterfront home — and the focus isn't just on more walls. It's on doing more with them.

The expansion is designed around interactive and digital experiences, something the museum has been working toward for years. The new space will include dedicated gallery areas for rotating and immersive exhibits, learning spaces built for both kids and adults, and flexible rooms for community events and programming. Think less "walk past art in silence" and more "step inside the art."

What's Being Built

  • 35,000 square feet of new space added to the existing waterfront building

  • New gallery areas for rotating exhibitions and immersive digital experiences

  • Dedicated learning spaces for children and adult programming

  • Flexible event and community gathering rooms

  • Designed by The Beck Group — the same firm behind the current building — ensuring a seamless architectural extension

Timeline

  • Construction start: Fall 2026

  • Expected opening: 2028

  • The museum will remain fully open throughout the entire construction period

How It's Being Funded

The project is backed by a mix of private donors, institutional partnerships, and tourism development funds — including support from Visit St. Pete-Clearwater.

Why It's Worth the Drive from Wesley Chapel

The Dalí is already one of the most visited museums in Florida. With this expansion, it becomes a genuinely world-class destination. Whether you're bringing out-of-town guests or planning a family day trip, St. Pete just got an even stronger reason to visit.
